Primark's Autumn Winter Collection is always amazing, but this year I really think they've got some amazing stuff! There are lots of lovely autumnal sweaters, brilliant coats and some amazing scarfs.

I've invested in one of each of these pieces to make add some things to my work wear wardrobe. It's really important for me to look professional as I'm going for lots of interviews and meeting with new potential employers.

This a great smart grey coat that I think looks far more expensive than the £25 I paid! It's a nice soft felt style material with popper fastenings. It's also got nice deep pockets.

The scarf is so so soft! It's a boucle style knit with a fringy end, and a marbled grey colour. It was just £7 and it's lovely and cosy!

My final purchase, and the one I was a little less sure of, was this green bat-wing sweater (complete with dog fur). Now I wasn't sure about this purely because I couldn't tell if the style would suit me. However I have barely taken it off since first trying it on! It's really cosy and the perfect thickness for this weird autumnal weather we have at the moment.

White Trainers - 3 Ways

White trainers are the staple minimalist fashion girl footwear and I think they go with everything. They can make a dress look more edgy, or casual up dark denim and a shirt, or complete a casual Sunday outfit.

Blooms & Amber - How to Wear White Trainers – Check out three outfit ideas for wearing those white trainers into autumn and winter, despite the slightly more chilly weather.

My white trainers are from Topshop, and they are faux leather and really comfy. I like to wear them with boyfriend jeans and an oversized tee. This is my version of a cosy comfy outfit and with a leather jacket and a statement lip this can be a good outfit to wear out in the evening for a casual trip to the pub with your pals.

Another look I love is with a fitted jersey dress and a cardigan, though this isn't always practical for the autumn and winter because I am not about the wind chill on my legs. But a comfy jersey dress can be a god send when you are super tired but need to look slightly put together. I really think here that the fedora brings the outfit together, and makes it look intentional, rather than just thrown on.

Another look that I think I'll be wearing a lot this autumn is with dark denim and an over sized sweater. Cosy over sized jumpers mean that you can layer up with vests when it's still warm, and thermals when it gets a bit more chilly. Here my scarf is a light cotton and I'm wearing it with my fedora, but in the winter I'll wear a blanket scarf and knitted hat! .

Wearing white trainers in the Winter can seem difficult because (in my opinion) you shouldn't really wear socks with them, but so long as you balance your other outfit aspects you can easily wear them into the winter!

Here are my favourite trainers that you can buy right now:

Topshop | Adidas | Converse | H&M

Easy Autumn Make-Up Updates

I really don’t wear a lot of make-up, and when I do it’s pretty much always the same thing all year round, however I’ve decided to throw together a post about how I’m going to turn my make up from simple summer to simple autumn.

Blooms and Amber - Autumn Lip Colour

Change up the lip colour

In the summer I like to wear a lip colour that is a pale pink or “your lips but better” because I think that summer make up should be easy and almost unnoticeable. And whilst this can carry over in the autumn quite easily a simple way of making your look more seasonal  by wearing a wine, brown or plum lip. I love the Revlon ColourBurst Balms coming in three types Stain, Matt and Lacquer, and I think they are really easy to wear. I've also recently invested in a Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Rich Raisin Frost as my go-to daily lip color for the autumn.

Define the eyes

During the summer with the heat and the lightness I do not wear any dark eyeliner, however when we get to the autumn I am more willing to wear eyeliner both on my tight-line and the occasional cat eye flick if I’m feeling a bit more daring. I keep the same eye shadow colour, mostly terracotta and metallic such as gold, bronze and rose gold. I really like the Bourjois Eyeshadow Pencils in rose gold and gold, both of which are such flattering colours for all skin tones and eye colours.

Blooms and Amber - Make-Up selection

Mattify the skin

In the summer I get lazy and I cannot be bothered to fight the glowy, dewy look and so I use a bb cream with either none or very little powder however once we get to the colder months I am more willing to fight the shine that can come from moving between the cold of outside and the warmth of buildings and transport.

(and also!) Add more moisture

Whilst this is not a make-up tip but rather a skin care one I feel a bit cheeky including it, but I’m going to anyway because I think it’s so important. I have oily skin and I get a lot of spots, but the most important thing for changing from summer to autumn is to moisturise your skin really well using a creamy oil-free moisturiser during the day and if you’re feeling brave your normal night cream and a facial oil at night. Your makeup will not sit nicely on your skin if you don’t moisture and it will help even if you have acne, promise!

Use some glitter!

In the summer, I use a liquid highlighter to define the tops of my cheekbones, but in the autumn, I prefer to use a shimmer powder. I use the Body Shop's Brush on Radiance to add a little colour and shimmer to highlight my cheek bones in the day, and on my brow bone in the evening!

Blooms and Amber - easy Autumn make-up updates to help you transition your make up from Summer to Autumn

These are my go-to ways to make my make-up feel more seasonally appropriate and whilst not all of them are very exciting, and I’d definitely like to be braver with my make-up, I find these ways easy and simple. 8 Things That Make Me Smile

So tomorrow, the 2nd of October, is World Smile Day, a day which for me means celebrating things that make us smile each and every day! World Smile Day is celebrated on the first Friday of October every year to encourage people to do an act of kindness and help one person smile!

So I'm going to share with you the things that help me smile, and I encourage you to try some of them out to cheer you up when the weather isn’t great and you’ve got no money in your bank account and you haven’t seen your friends in days.

1. Cuddling a Dog!

Blooms and Amber - Boxer Dog

I have 5 dogs, 4 boxers and a border collie who are all adorable and all so full of love their hearts might pop! You’ll often find my youngest pup sitting at the foot of my bed with me as I browse job listings. I always know that I’ve had a bad day, one of them will be there to greet me at the door with a big grin on their face and their tail wagging at 100 miles an hour.

2. Videogame Let's Plays!

I watch a couple of let players namely “Game Grumps” and “Mortem3r at KittyKatGaming” and I always know that the jokes they make or the games they're playing will be able to put a grin on my face! I’m not always the most skilled at complicated games, and being able to watch other people play games, whilst they make jokes, is an easy way for me to take part in these games without having to frustrate myself through trying to play them

3. Big Bowls of Pasta!

My housemates had a nickname for my lazy dinner called “Pasta alla Beci” which is a ginormous bowl of pasta with butter, cheese and ham. This is the most unhealthy dish, but if you’ve had a terrible day and all you want to do is cry, then this so so satisfying.

4. The Sun from behind Grey Clouds!

Blooms and Amber - Trees

There’s a view from my bedroom window, when the sky is grey behind two very tall conifers, and the sun come out from behind the clouds and shines onto the front of the trees. Just wow.

5. Making Plans!

Sending a message to your gal pals suggesting a fun girly weekend, or getting a message from your bae with date plans, or even from your parents asking if you’d like take out that evening, having something to look forward to is so exciting!

6. Clean Bedding!

You know when you’re sick and you spend ages feeling so sorry for yourself and so under the weather and then suddenly you feel like you’ve crossed a bridge and can feel yourself getting better. So you have a really hot shower, and you change your bedding and then you feel even more healthy. That is the magic of clean bedding. Even when you’re not sick, putting clean sheets on your bed and having a shower and plaiting your hair and snuggling in the clean fresh sheets is so cosy.

7. Fresh Nail Polish!

A fresh mani can make a day, especially if you managed to do it yourself! There’s something so satisfying about a clean un-chipped coat of a beautiful colour and even if you know it'll only last a few hours it's great to take a few Instagram posts.

8. Bargins!

Blooms and Amber - Boots

If you follow me on Instagram you will have seen that I managed to grab myself some Kurt Geiger boots for just £20. I managed to get them from the charity stop down the road from me and they are practically unworn! Finding a good bargain is amazing and makes you feel so good.

So My Friends Are All Going Back To University…

Out of my friendship group of 10, only 3 of us have finished and graduated from university. All 10 of us have started university but due to varying reasons from taking time off, doing a longer course, or doing a masters course, all but three of us have got more studying time.

I am of course one of the ones who has finished. I wouldn’t be writing this post if that were not the case. During the summer I took my final exams (only two because I hate exams) and graduated my three year degree with a 2:1 in Archaeology and Anthropology from the University of Kent.

Now half of me is super excited to have graduated, and really glad not to have to move away from home again. I am also really glad to no longer have the write essays or take exams because whilst I love learning, I really dislike being tested on my knowledge. Of course I know why we are tested, but sometimes it’s nice to just take in information without having to prove you understand.

The other half of me is absolutely flipping petrified about having left the security of education. I’ve spent the last 16 years straight in some form of organised education and leaving that is kind of terrifying. I don’t know what I want to do with my new found freedom, or what kind of job I want, or even how I want to spend the rest of my life. And that’s scary.

Partly because most of my friends have still got more time to spend on that discovery. They still have at least a year to decide what they want to do once they graduate and move onto the next stage of their lives. And I know that some of them have already decided, and some of them have no clue, and that’s okay.

I’m also scared because I know I’ll miss them whilst they’re gone. I’ll have a great 3 months here with my friends who are staying and I’ll get stuck into other parts of my life, like learning to drive and writing the blog and redecorating my house. But it will be nice to see them when they come back in December.

Besides all that, I know that I will be okay. Regardless of whether I decide what I want to do in a month or in 6 months or even a year I will be able to make a decision and start my life on a pathway that will lead me to happiness.

Starting this blog has been a good step forward as this is something I’ve wanted to do for a while, and it’s taken the fear of having nothing to do to make me realise that it’s not worth waiting for the perfect moment. It’s far better to get stuck in and just work hard, than sit and wait for perfection.

So that’s my conclusion from all my friends going back to university.
